Ganhaizi, aptly named the Dry Sea, is a vast meadow situated at an impressive altitude of 3,100 meters (10,171 feet). Its name derives from its history as a highland glacial lake, which gradually dried up before the 1940s. Nestled at the eastern foot of the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Ganhaizi lies just 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from the charming Lijiang Old Town.
Surrounded by towering mountains on three sides, Ganhaizi offers visitors an unparalleled vantage point to admire the panoramic splendor of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain range. The 13 peaks of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, adorned with pristine white snow, gracefully stretch from north to south, resembling a magnificent white jade dragon frolicking in the azure sky.
Among these peaks, the highest summit, known as Shanzidou or Fan Peak, derives its name from its distinctive shape. When viewed from a certain angle, Shanzidou resembles an immense unfolded fan piercing through the clouds, adding to the mystique and allure of the landscape.
