Fuhu Temple

Fuhu Temple, also known as the Crouching Tiger Temple, dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) and stands as the largest nunnery on Mount Emei. The construction of this temple spanned approximately 20 years. Within its premises, the first pavilion houses a revered golden statue of Maitreya, the Buddha of the Future. Notably, Fuhu Temple is home to the only Arhat Hall on Mount Emei, featuring a stunning four-faced Buddha statue of Arya Avalokiteshvara (Goddess of Mercy) surrounded by 500 Buddhist Arhats. Each Arhat is meticulously sculpted to represent different traditional Chinese Buddhist figures.
A highlight of Fuhu Temple is the 7-meter-high Huayan Pagoda, crafted from copper and adorned with over 4,700 small Buddhist figures. Inscribed with a complete version of the Avatamsaka Sutra, this pagoda is a testament to the temple’s spiritual significance and architectural grandeur.
