Mu’s Residence, nestled in the southwestern corner of Lijiang Old Town, stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Tusi Mu’s Yamen, the ruling seat of the Naxi Ethnic Group in Yunnan. Throughout the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, Tusi Mu wielded authority over the Naxi people from this magnificent abode, which served as the nexus of political power and opulence in ancient Naxi society.

Despite its designation as a mere residence, Mu’s Residence exudes the regal splendor of a palace. In its prime, spanning over 100 mu (approximately 16 acres) and boasting nearly one hundred structures, Mu’s Residence resembled a miniature Forbidden City. Tragically, much of the residence fell victim to warfare during the Qing Dynasty, but its legacy endured.

Despite the ravages of time and conflict, Mu’s Residence stands as a poignant testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of the Naxi people, offering visitors a glimpse into the resplendent legacy of a bygone era.
