Kunming Stone Forest, known as Shilin in Chinese, stands as a breathtaking marvel of limestone formations, representing the iconic karst landscape of southern China. Revered since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) as the ‘First Wonder of the World,’ it holds a place of prominence as one of Yunnan’s most cherished attractions. A local adage suggests that a visit to Kunming without experiencing the Stone Forest is a missed opportunity.

Covering an expansive area of 300 square kilometers near Kunming in Yunnan province, Shilin is characterized by its mesmerizing karst formations sculpted by nature over millions of years. These stalagmite-like pillars, formed over 270 million years ago, create an otherworldly landscape resembling a stone forest, hence the name. Shilin comprises several distinct stone forests, with the Naigu Stone Forest and Suogeyi Village being among the most renowned.

Both Naigu Stone Forest and Suogeyi Village are integral parts of the South China Karst, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its remarkable geological features.
