- We really enjoyed the tour. Visiting the Great Wall was one great way to appreciate the history of ancient China civilisation. Our guide, Miko was very knowledgable about the great wall and the palace. We learned a lot about the history of both places. He was also very funny and took very good care of us. His English also very good.

- Our tour guide’s name was Albert. Although we signed up for a small group tour, it ended up just being my 2 friends and I along with our driver and Albert in an air conditioned van for the day. We had the best time ever! Albert was very helpful, full of stories and an all round great guide. He suggested we take the cable cars up and the toboggan down, which we did, and it was the best way to experience the wall. We got there early in the morning which I highly recommend and so there were not many people in the queue for the cable cars or on the wall – and it was much cooler than later in the day too! Lunch was yum! I’m vegetarian but there was an ample selection for me and I would go back to that local restaurant again in a heartbeat! I would have personally liked to hike a bit more but it was crazy hot mid-June so will save that for another trip!

- Well this was definitely a bucket list excursion for all of us. Ever since I was small, The Great Wall has been a place to visit. Our tour guide Miko was the ideal guide for this amazing journey! Our private tour began at the hotel where Miko and his driver picked us up and drove us about an hour and a half to Mutianyu. The drive was so beautiful and I loved the village before we got to the Great Wall. Miko gave us a brief and informative history of the Wall and then the adventure began.
We rode the chairlift up and the MUST DO Toboggan down the hill. Lunch afterwards was my favorite meal at a very local restaurant that was locally owned. The food was delicious! All three of us agreed that this was our favorite day in China!! Many thanks to Miko for checking this great day off my bucket list and GO LAKERS!! Miko is a huge Kobe Bryant and Laker fan. Made the trip even more enjoyable!!

- Seeing the great wall was an exceptional experience and lunch at a local restaurant was very good. Our guide, Albert, was wonderful. I would give him the highest rating. He was very personable and knowledgeable. Albert spoke excellent English, and was able to discuss Chinese culture along with facts about the various sites. He seemed to enjoy his job and catered to our desires. We preferred to maximize our time at the great wall and hike a portion of the wall so Albert ensured that we had plenty of time at the great wall. The private tour bypassed the jewelry and other shops so we could focus on what we wanted to see. If you are not interested in the tourist shops, I would choose a private tour.

- I travelled with my wife, our 8 year old, 6 year old and 4.5 year old.Linda, our tour guide, spoke clear English. She was very apologetic for being 10 minutes late at pick up due to unforeseen traffic related reason. I could relate to that as I am very familiar with traffic problems in large metros.
We immediately started our travel to Mutianyu in her 7 passenger Buick van which was air conditioned and clean enough from inside.
In less than 2 hours we were outside the great wall.
There was a long 1hr40min wait in the line. Luckily it was warm with over cast. So the sun did not bother us. Linda said the best time to visit with an aim to beat the heat would be in April. This can be a tip for families with small kids as continuos sun exposure will exhaust while doing a nearly 2 hour wait.
Be prepared for it.
Took the ski slope style rope line to the great wall which as expected completely blew us away. Kids were going nuts.
Right before entry into the waiting line there was a fairly clean rest room which Linda appropriately pointed out.
By the time we took 1300 steps back to base, it was lunch time. I politely explained that we had not developed the taste for Chinese cuisine and cannot eat pork. Linda called the boss and agreed to let us eat at the subway or a burger joint right outside the great wall base as long as it was within a budget of RMB 200.
After we had ordered, Linda pleasantly surprised us by saying that though we were over budget, we need not to pay. :We got on the van to the Summer palace.
This was at the other edge of the city and it took 1 hour to get there. The place has architecture I had never seen before so we were all very pleased. Again amenities such as rest rooms for families were available.
We finished it in 1 hour.
Linda said good bye and instructed the driver to drop us back at the hotel near terminal 3 of the airport.
They like to pick there customers from within the down town area. I requested for an exception. They agreed to pick us from Terminal 3 hilton hotel loooong way form down town and to drop us back for an extra charge of USD100. I happily pain as it saved be an additional journey of more than an hour form hotel to pick up spot.
In the end i tipped Linda and the very pleasant driver does not speak english USD 20 each.
Very pleased. Good job guys for taking care of our family of 5.

- Tiananmen Square was great, a historical place with lots of ancient significance. Our tour guide Miko was great, he explained the history in great detail. It was a hot summer day and the tour guide served us with ice cold water, super sweet. After the square and forbidden city we went to a restaurant to taste authentic local food, I liked it. We took full day tour so later in the afternoon our guide took us to Summer palace, in my opinion it is an OK place.
Overall the tour was great. Thanks Miko.

- We booked a family-friendly trip through Viator with Discover Beijing Tours. We were matched with Albert, our guide, and a driver. Albert was an outstanding guide, his english was excellent, and our driver was safe got us to our tour locations as quickly as possible despite some typical Beijing traffic.Of course, the wall and the summer palace were excellent sites to visit and good for the whole family. Don’t miss the toboggan ride down after trekking up and down the wall!
Our 7 year old and 13 year old had lots of questions–and Albert was very courteous and knowledgeable… he told us some great stories and history of the part of the wall that we visited and a great description of the history of the summer palace and Dragon Lady.
If you are doing this tour… definitely request Albert. He made the trip well worth the expense.
One last thing… the van they used was great and had seat belts for everyone!

- I cannot say enough how much our guide, Cactus, made us feel welcome on our first day in China. Overall review is that we tried a lot of local foods, received great commentary and history from Cactus and it left us with a wonderful impression of China on our first day. Breakdown of the tour:
-She met us promptly at our hotel lobby, and due to high traffic we decided to learn how to use the train system instead to get to our destination. So glad we did and she taught us a lot!
-The. Food. Was. Awesome. Some was not…but you gotta try everything right?
-At each specific location she would talk about the region, history, and what makes the food popular in that area.
-Tour of a local Hutong alley with great historical information and wonderful local feel
-She took pictures. Which is great when you are focused on stuffing your face and forget to take your own.
-Helped us to secure transportation home.
-Highly recommended and you are very lucky if you meet with Cactus! -

After the great wall she took us to a local country restaurant where we had fresh authentic fish and an amazing meal before we headed to the ming tombs. - This tour was excellent, and I highly recommend it. Our tour guide, Alice, was extremely knowledgeable. As we drove through the city, Alice pointed out key sights in the city itself. She told us how long it would take us to get to the Great Wall and then gave us an impressive history of the Wall and how it came into being. She took care of getting our tickets and guiding us to the cable cars that took us up to the Great Wall itself. Once there, she gave us details about the nature of the Wall itself. Then she gave us an hour to explore the Wall by ourselves. We took the cable car down and happened to catch the car that commemorated Michelle Obama’s visit. We had plenty of time to shop for souvenirs before we moved on to a local restaurant, where we had a fine lunch. After lunch, we drove to the Summer Palace, and once again Alice proved herself extremely knowledgeable. After an exciting day, we were returned to our hotel. My daughter and I were so glad that we had taken this particular tour, and we were very grateful for Alice’s guidance throughout the day.

- Our guide was ‘Jimmy’, an absolute brilliant and cheery guy. He called our hotel the evening before our tour, to confirm our pick up time etc. We were a small party of 4, my wife and me plus two guys originally from Switzerland. We had a leisurely stroll through the square and into the the Forbidden City. Jimmy was full of stories and interesting facts all told in excellent English. At the end of the tour he walked us, rather than just give us directions, to an absolutely brilliant restaurant for lunch that he recommended, a distance of about a mile. He took my number and kindly offered to answer any queries or give us any tips if required during the rest of our trip. An excellent service, because frankly, if you don’t have a guide, you will miss out on so much given the scale of these attractions

- We booked this tour last minute. It was more expensive than others and I was surprised to find out we had to pay transport to the start of the tour and back to our accommodation. I could not locate this information anywhere on the website. The transport didn’t cost much but this should be made clear before the tour. We had a fun time with Miko, our personal guide. He was cheerful and friendly and full of information. If I go back to Beijing, I would definitely try to go on another tour with Miko. We were quite adventurous with the food choices such as pig’s intestines. We enjoyed a wide variety of dishes such as hotpot, duck soup and sticky rice dumpling. We would recommend visitors to Beijing to take a food tour at the beginning of their holiday as you can then go into local restaurants on your own and know what you are eating.

- I booked this tour through Viator and during the booking I outlined all the things I hoped to see during my one full day in Beijing: Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Temple Of Heaven, some hutongs, and a great tea house. I requested a later-than-normal start time of 11:30, so I wasn’t expecting to see everything on my list. But Susan and her driver made it happen and then some! Susan met me promptly at my hotel (Oakwood Residence Beijing) at 11:30. She was very friendly, enthusiastic, and spoke great English. We headed straight for Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Susan was an absolute fountain of information at both of these places, and indeed everywhere we went that day. She filled me up with all sorts of interesting and historical things about everything we saw- things I would never have learned on my own or in a large group. And in so doing, she explained some fascinating aspects of Chinese culture in general. I often forget to take photos on my travels because I like to be in the moment, but Susan was right there to offer and suggest taking some great photos of me at all the places we stopped. She even suggested a jumping-in-the-air shot in front of the Temple Of Heaven, which was a big hit on my Facebook page 🙂 I realized toward the end of the day that I had forgotten to include a lunch stop on my proposed itinerary. Once I realized I was pretty hungry, Susan happily brought me to a great local (non-touristy) dumpling spot where she told me all about authentic Chinese dumplings and even the right way to eat them, and she happily ordered for us. Again this was totally spontaneous and the fact that she was so prepared and happy to oblige was amazing. As we went parted ways in the evening, I felt as though I had seen and learned a ton and even made a new friend in Beijing, which is far more than I expected. I would gladly recommend Susan to anyone visiting the capital for any length of time.

When we got there we were given the choice of a gondola ride up/down or a chair lift up and luge sled down. We chose the chair lift and luge. After the Great Wall we went to a local small town restaurant for lunch. Albert asked if we had any food preferences we said no seafood and we were provided with soft drinks and a variety of chicken, pork, and vegetable dishes. After lunch we traveled back to the Summer Palace in Beijing. At all locations Albert was able to get our passes and tickets quickly and efficiently. We experienced front-of-the-line service. After the tour we asked Albert and Mr. Wong if we could be dropped off somewhere else in the Beijing city centre for a dinner reservation. They happily complied. Albert even walked us to our restaurant. He was an amazing tour guide and this tour is worth every penny!

- I highly recommend visiting the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square with a guide, because it allows you to understand the importance and meaning of its buildings and spaces. We had a great experience. Our guide Qing was excellent, she gave us loads of information and interesting stories about the sights, helping us make the most of our visit. Luckily the tour was our very first activity in Beijing, so what she taught us helped a lot when visiting other sights such us the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven by ourselves.

- High Recommend! We were picked up at out hotel by Albert and Mr. Lee. Albert was phenomenal! He gave us a lot of great information about Beijing, it’s history both modern and ancient and the areas where we would be visiting. The Great Wall is an incredible experience. The Mutianyu section was more recently restored and provided amazing vistas without being too over crowded. Albert was very knowledgeable and I found myself sharing his insights with some of the other vistors while I waited for my husband and daughter to return from the top FYI–some parts of this journey are a little hairy if you suffer from fear of heights, but there are enough different paths to take that there is something for everyone. The lunch was probably the best meal we had in Beijing. The best part of this particular tour is that you can customize your time if you’d rather spend more or less time somewhere. Well worth the price!

- We booked this tour while in Beijing because we were tired from visiting everything on our own during the week. This was our last day and it was the perfect way to wrap up our trip.
We chose this particular tour after reading reviews online that praised tour leader Cactus. The evening before the tour we got a confirmation call to our room and were very happy to hear Cactus would pick us up!
She was early to get us in the hotel lobby as promised. The Buick van was very clean and comfortable and the driver was polite and careful. After reviewing the itinerary and making sure we understood and agreed on how the day would unfold we were on our way. We got to the Wall early in the morning before the crowds and there were no lines anywhere. Cactus showed us the map and explained our options to get up to, and down from the Wall, as well as the layout of the towers. We chose the chairlift up and toboggan down. Trust me, that’s the way to do it. My wife was a bit concerned at first, but had a blast. We went at our own pace and Cactus provided tons of details about the history of the place, as well as really interesting tidbits. She took our pictures asking people to move out of the background! She did that throughout the day and we got great pictures!
After we decided we had had enough climbing, we turned back and went back down. No pressure whatsoever from Cactus.
It was off to lunch. Cactus explained where we were going and asked about allergies (many times), preferences and dislikes. The food was fantastic and I felt bad we could not eat it all, and believe me, we tried!
Summer Palace followed the same format of the Wall with a clear explanation of what we would cover (referring to the map), lots of very interesting information, and even a patient, lengthy and thorough explanation of how to say thank you in Chinese at my wife’s request! (it’s not as easy as we thought)
After Summer Palace we were beat and chose to forgo the Bird’s Nest.
A great experience worth every penny. This company is very well run and I’m certain every tour leader is great. However, if you can, please get Cactus. I cannot think of anyone who would have made the day better and who would’ve provided a better tour. Highly recommend!!!

Albert was full of knowledge about the history of China and truly helped us appreciate thousands of years of history and culture. - This was truly a highlight of the trip and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to experience both these amazing venues. Our driver’s car was very clean and comfortable and I always felt completely safe in the somewhat crazy Beijing traffic. Roy was our wonderful, thoughtful and amazingly considerate guide. It was just the two of us on the tour, my sister and I, and he was really helpful in letting us take it all in at our own pace, given that my asthma was playing up and I was having trouble with some of the climbing at the wall. He wove some wonderful historical details around the trip which made things really come alive- but what was also fascinating were his stories of what it is like to live as a young man trying to make his way in China for himself and his wife and new daughter. He took care with lunch to order a selection of dishes reflecting tastes in different regions- all were absolutely delicious and there wasn’t another westerner in sight! And he didn’t laugh when this 62-year-old expressed a desire to toboggan down the wall at Mutianyu- which actually ranks now as another highlight of the trip. I could not recommend this experience more highly.

- Both on the way into Beijing and on the way back to the airport, the drivers were prompt, had bottled water available, and drove well. The cars were very comfortable. On the way from the airport into Beijing, the driver picked up my suitcase but walked really fast so I could barely keep up. He didn’t smile or try to make a friendly gesture, which kind of put me off, but no harm done. On the way from Beijing back to the airport upon leaving, the service was much friendlier and more accommodating. I assume in both cases no English was spoken, but I feel that shouldn’t be a barrier to communicating non-verbally in a friendly manner. One star off for the first driver.

- This tour was fantastic. In a short and very comfortable three days, we covered a lot – the Great Wall, Summer Palace, etc. My guide, Albert Liu, was very knowledgeable, especially about the Ming era. He made the places come to life with anecdotes, and I was quite impressed with his storytelling ability, especially his use of mini-cliffhangers. For example, he started to give me some background of a place, raised a question about it, and then said, You will learn more about the answer to that question at the next site we see. Or, he mentioned a historical figure and gave some background, and said, What kind of a person do you think this empress was? You’ll find out more at the next site, and you can decide. A on engagement.I was especially interested in what it is like to live in China today. Albert kindly shared some of his family background to let me have a sense of everyday life, even outside the city. He was also more than happy to accommodate my requests. For example, I wanted to see what it might be like to do Chinese acupuncture, so we skipped the zoo my choice and he made arrangements for acupuncture the following day.All in all, I can’t recommend this tour highly enough, and if you have a chance to go with Albert, I would suggest you jump at the chance.

We did the Great Wall and the Summer Palace on the first day. Between the two Albert and the driver took us to lunch at a great local spot in between the two locations. Everything was perfect. Albert majored in tourism and was very knowledgeable and informative every step of the way. He also spoke very good English. The second day was the Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. Without Albert, we would have gotten very little out of visiting these sites. He completely explained the details so it brought the entire visit alive and made it so very memorable. In fact, we met some people on the flight home who had gone there on their own. They said it was a waste of time as they didn’t know what they were looking at or what to look for. Albert did a great job and we are very happy we decided to go with the guided tours. Completely made the trip a lifelong, positive memory.

- This was a highlight of our trip. Tina our guide was not only well informed, she was laid back and relaxed. Both the Great Wall and the Summer Palace are massive and one could spend a day at each, yet unlike other tour guides, Tina put no time constraints on us, and suggested we move at our own pace. Plus the restaurant she chose for lunch was authentic and delicious. There were two reasons we chose this tour over the others – 1: Mutianyu the access point to the wall was not crowded and the views were fantastic. And 2: it was a small group. Most of the reviews said they were the only people on the tour, and that was true for us as well. We were the only 2 on the tour, so Tina customized it to our needs. 100 satisfied and 5 STARS – Jeff, Tampa Florida USA

- The overall experience was good except that the driver was not at the arrivals barrier with our name displayed when we came through. We looked along the row of waiting people twice before ringing the contact number we had for the pick up. The office was very helpful and told us the driver was there and would meet us shortly. We waited another 10 minutes before we were approached by the driver with our name on a mobile phone. The transfer was very smooth and as it was late at night, quite swift. We were given a bottle of water on the journey that was very welcoming after a long flight.

- A wonderful experience! This part of the Great Wall was not too crowded and the chair lift up and toboggan ride down were much fun. I’ve finally had the chance to visit this amazing structure. I felt the Summer Palace was a little crowded and rushed but it’s still one of the key places to visit when in Beijing. Cynthia is a great guide – the moment we started our journey, she began to tell us about the history and stories behind the sights. She explained the significance of certain architectural features and even gave us a lowdown of modern Chinese society and lifestyle. We have truly enjoyed our time with her.

After a wonderful lunch at a local restuarant it took off to the Summer Palace where May gave me even more insight into the historical part. An excellent guide as I hope more will have a wonderful day with.

Ashort walk outside to wait for the driver and car to appear then all three of us drove to the hotel in town. For a single lady having both the driver and the female guide on board is comforting for the journey. Very good service – even though there was little English spoken – but we all understood. - I’m so glad we booked this All-Inclusive tour! Our guide, Bella, and driver, Wangshen sp?. were both so engaging and nice. We didn’t have to worry about buying our tickets to the Great Wall, chair lift, toboggan, lunch or Summer Palace. Bella had our tickets and we got the VIP escort to the front of the lines. The toboggan ride down the mountain was 100 times better than any Disneyland ride….an absolute blast! After the Great Wall Bella took us to a local Chinese restaurant in the village. The food was delicious! Being Chinese myself, I know good Chinese food and this restaurant served some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. It was fresh, flavors were incredible and the noodles were homemade. We stopped at one of the farmer’s fruit stand and bought the biggest and most delicious white peaches and Chinese pears. The peaches were larger than softballs!Thank you to our tour guide Bella and our driver Wangshen for showing us a perfect day! I highly recommend this experience.

- Amazing tour! It actually ended up as a private tour because no one else booked it that day. Totally fine by me and my friend because we were able to go on our own pace. Our guide Bella, picked us up at our hotel lobby and then we were off to The Wall. Our driver was great. Didn’t catch his name but he’s the guy with the pink hair. I felt safe in his car. I was a bit worried after witnessing how the locals drive in Beijing.I highly recommend visiting the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. It is a bit further further away but less crowded. Bella gave us plenty of history about the wall and gave us options to explore the wall on our own. We opted to go the harder route which is just very steep. We managed to snap some photos of the wall without any other visible visitors. We took the chair lift up and the toboggan down. I definitely recommend the toboggan down. It’s pretty fun if you don’t get stuck behind someone going a slower pace. Then we taken to a local village for lunch. She asked if we had any preferences on what we wanted to eat and wouldn’t eat. It was delicious. After lunch, we headed to the Summer Palace. Such a beautiful palace! It was a bit crowded and really hot, so we didn’t stay for a really long time.If you’re thinking about booking this tour, just do it.

- An amazing tour with Cynthia was everything we hoped it would be with the perfect balance of activities and guidance. Started with a prompt 8am pickup from the hotel, and an engaging and history filled 90-minute drive to Mutainyu. The cable car was quite something, but the Great Wall itself truly spectacular. Worth the flight from Shanghai alone! We spent a good few hours on the wall, walking various sections firstly up the steep climb it is a little tough to the right as you walk onto the wall, and then back to the other side with the more stunning visuals. Cynthia was great and gave us plenty of insights and space to explore at our own pace, while stopping to catch breath and also to take some insta-pics.Following the time on the Wall, we took the toboggan run down the mountain which was good fun. I’d done something like this before, so pushed myself this time to go faster and higher round the bends. Then we drove back towards the Summer Palace. A great history lesson followed about the ‘Dragon Lady’ and the background to the Palace. Being a bit of a sporting geek, I was keen to stop-off near the Birds Nest stadium, which was duly arranged, before a drop-off back to the hotel at roughly 5pm.All in all an exceptional tour. Thank you Cynthia. The Great Wall is a must do if you have some time in China to get around.

- Great Service, cheaper than hotel can provide, on time, good clean car with water ready for you. Yes I would recommend this especially if you arrive after 10.30 p.m. as there are no trains.
Do yourself a favour after a long flight and just book this transfer, the driver does not speak English although he knows exactly where you want to go. Yes, it is true, not much English in Beijing, only at hotel. Although we managed to get around for a week with no hassles once we learnt the railway system which is really easy and in English. Do not believe there is no cash, plenty of cash taken in all walks of life and even at the railway stations. A word of warning when you get to the city, Scam SCAM, a couple approach you in the street, asking you nice questions about where you are from, he is a business man visited from Shanghi with his very innocent, smiling colleague, they ask to have a drink with you at the Coffee bar next door, nice wine, tea, snacks come out and then the bill….. he tells you that it is customary for visitors to pay for this bill, and when we come to Shanghi he will shout, BILL SHOCK 300 Australian , its a scam, we said we would only pay our share 1/2 which is still a rip off in anyone’s language, they are not breaking the law, but you may be if you do not pay……..this couple are award winning actors I can tell you………..BEWARE of them in Wangfujing Street, where is says Coffee Shop, the owner of this is involved in the scam as well. Its a shame as we met so many lovely Chinese families at the parks, temples, railway stations etc. Anyway spread the SCAM so someone else does not get ripped off. -

- Great tour! The tour was well-organized and Alice, our guide, made it very interesting with her historical insights. The Mutianyu section of the Wall is beautifully restored, and situated in breath-taking scenery. We were there for just about the perfect length of time.
The Summer Palace wasn’t initially on our list of must see in Beijing but we are very glad that we visited it. It is spectacular and easier to visit than the Forbidden City. Again, we were there just about the perfect length of time.
This tour requires a fair amount of walking, but because it’s a small group, there is some flexibility. -

- A great tour. Mutianyu is a nice place to see the Great Wall, as there are less tourists and it seemed a bit cooler. Our guide Bella was very friendly and took us to a lovely restaurant for lunch in the countryside, using fresh local produce. The Summer Palace was very busy and most of the tour is outdoors, which was extremely hot in July, but also very interesting.

- We liked that this was a walking tour which meant also catching local public transport. Bella had also made sure that we had faster entry into the Forbidden City in busy school holidays period. This was appreciated in the very hot weather. Bella gave us fascinating insight into the history of the Forbidden City which could not be achieved with just a combination of visiting and reading signs and books. We also liked eating local foods afterwards although we became rather full from too much food. I would recommend Bella as an excellent English speaking guide.

We must have had over 20 different things, if anything too much food but we weren’t complaining. Some of the restaurants were down side streets so we probably would not have visited them if it was not for the tour. Also a lot of them had no English Menus so it was good to have a guide who could explain what we were getting. The guide was excellent. He spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable about the food and what regions it came from.

- This was excellent with a lovely guide student who navigated us through the Forbidden city crowds. The older mainland Chinese tourists are the most pushy and escitable crowd I’ve seen for a long time. Anyway, lots of nice stories then a quick pockup at the north end of the city. Drive out to the wall stopping for lunch en route. Even my 13 yr old daughter ate something which was a bonus! The driver dropped us off at the wall and we walked through the modern but nicely done entrance road – souvenirs, snack places etc – to get the bus to the cable car to finally reach the wall. Amazing place and well worth the wait. Then the kart-thing down which was fun and a long traffic jammed ride home. This took so long we skipped the Birds nest and just got dropped off at hotel. Thoroughly recommend.

- I am convinced this is the only way to go in China. I don’t mind taking a taxi from the hotel back to the airport, but having someone there to greet you, as you come out of baggage claim, take you to nice air-conditioned car and have you at your hotel with no problems, or risk of scams, is great. Price is reasonable for all that you get. This is the 3rd time I have used this service through Trip advisor / Viator in my 3rd Chinese city, every time the same – just perfect.

- Cool way to get to know some of the local food in Beijing, which can be sometimes hard to taste on your own if you don’t speak the language or don’t have many days to explore. Our guide Roy was very nice and made the experience very enjoyable with his knowledge of Chinese food from all over the country. Prepare to eat a lot, so it’s best to skip breakfast or lunch. - Fantastic tour. My husband and I ended up being the only ones on the tour that day. We got a phone call from our tour guide the night before confirming pick up location and time. We got picked up from the hotel lobby. Car was a lovely large town car, fully air conditioned, roomy and comfortable. We had a driver and an English speaking tour guide for the entire eight hours. We drove the 90 minutes or so to the Wall. We were asked whether we would like cable car or chairlift up and toboggan down. We chose chairlift up and tobaggan down. We would have chosen cable car if we realised that the cable car took you far higher up the wall, but our choice was still good. Our tour guide came with us through ticket pick up, shuttle to the base, up the chairlift, got us on the wall and advised us we could spend 60-90 minutes on the wall – up to us. We spent 60 mins which was enough to take great photos and walk up a couple of towers and back. Amazing! We got the toboggan down and it was far easier than I imagined. We then were taken to a village to a restaurant and had a lovely lunch that tour guide, Jack had pre-arranged. It was very nice lunch in a clean restaurant. We then drove to the Summer Palace gardens and Jack again took us through the entire garden at a pace that suited us. After tour we were dropped back to our hotel. A fabulous day with great service and how lucky were we to have entire tour to ourselves.

The lake was scenic at the summer palace. I have to say though, for beauty of architecture don’t miss the temple.

- Tour was as advertised with no forced shopping. Pick up and drop off were without surprises. Roy provided a good history lesson on the drive to the Great Wall. The lunch seemed to be authentic, as advertised, with a mix of locals and other tours. If you are riding the bobsled down from the Great Wall, a piece of advice: let the person in the sled in front of you get WAY ahead before you start. Bobsled traffic backs up behind the weakest link. I had to ride the brake for virtually the entire ride, thereby removing most of the fun.

- Our guide Alice led a pleasant and informative outing to the Great Wall at Mutianyu and the Ming tombs. My wife and I booked a private tour, but on the day my wife was ill so it was just me. Alice met me at our hotel on time and we headed to the Great Wall. Alice’s English was good. She told me about the sites we visited and some of their history, and answered my questions. At Mutianyu, we rode a chair lift up to the wall, I walked along it for a mile or so and then back. Standing on the wall, I could imagine the life of the soldiers watching for invaders from the north. We rode the ‘toboggan’ slide down, which was good fun. Next we drove through the mountains to a rustic restaurant for lunch. They scooped a live fish out of their pond, grilled and served it to us minutes later. It was delicious! Then we drove to the Ming tombs. They’re huge! Each tomb had its own park and hilltop taken together they occupy an entire county. We visited one tomb which has been excavated and restored, and the sacred walk which is flanked by pairs of animal and human statues.Alice handled our tickets and admission smoothly. We traveled in a comfortable, air conditioned sedan. The driver drove safely, dropped us off close to our destinations and picked us up promptly. I recommend this tour, the tour operator and Alice.

- This tour was hosted by Becky a fantastic guide from Discover Beijing Tours. My daughter and I were picked up from our hotel by Becky and a driver in a nice car because we were the only two on this tour, which is a credit to this company as they could have cancelled the tour but instead focused on great customer service. Throughout the trip to the Great Wall Becky gave us details of the tour followed by the history of the Great Wall. Upon arrival Becky organised tickets to take the chairlift up and to toboggan down as it would save us time, which was an excellent recommendation by Becky. To experience one of the greatest human feats on earth was fantastic although it was very steep with a lot of steps and it is a better experience if you have a reasonable level of fitness. After the wall Becky took us to a local restaurant for lunch where the food was excellent. We then went to the Summer Palace which is beautiful and has has a great history story behind it. Becky recommended that we take the boat rip across the lake which offered great views of the palace and surrounds. On the way back to the city we stopped for a photo opportunity of the Olympic Games site while Becky pointed out many buildings and city sites. Our driver was excellent and we felt safe the whole trip. I recommend Becky and Discover Beijing Tours.

- We had arrived late into Beijing because of a thunder storm in Seattle, yet the driver was there waiting patiently for us. He didn’t speak English, but had a cell phone to translate if needed. Just as promised, he knew exactly where to go and didn’t even wait around for a tip which I would gladly have given. The car was nice and new at least it seemed since it still had the new car smell. Before we left the airport he even confirmed the day and time of pick up for the ride back. The second driver was different than the first. He was early to the hotel, but didn’t rush us. We actually didn’t know he was there because of this. He found us right on time and got us to the terminal. He knew which one and kept confirming it with us just to make sure we knew. I didn’t know and just trusted him just to find out that he was right from the start. 10’s for both of our drivers. Because both of them didn’t speak English, we couldn’t ask for names to include in this review.

Picked up from our hotel exactly on time and had a pleasant journey to the Great Wall with Albert providing us with some of the history of the Wall. Fortunately the weather was brilliant and on arrival we took the chairlift up to the Wall and then spent one and a half hours walking with Albert answering our questions. We then took the toboggan ride down – great fun. It was then off to lunch at a local restaurant and with Albert’s help managed to order a very good meal. It was the off to the Summer Palace which was beautiful and again Albert explained all the history. Finally we made an unscheduled stop at the Birds Nest stadium. - As many have said, this is an excellent full day tour. Our tour guide, Albert, was excellent. He provided us with fascinating history of the Great Wall and the Summer Palace in very good English. Very courteous and attentive to our needs family of four with kids ages 10 and 8. He had the kids fascinated with the history of both places. Amazing how much of the stories, they were able to remember. Much of that is due to Albert. Also very nice to have him handle ticket purchase included in tour price and conversing with attendants wherever we went. Lunch at local restaurant included was delicious. Way more food than we could eat. Easy to order with all of the pictures and English names. The private tour experience was definitely worth the extra money. Highly recommend especially with Albert as a guide.

- Our tour with Roy was very enjoyable. Roy was on time for pick up, courteous, informative, open to changing the itinerary and provided us with answers to questions for the 90 minute drive to Mutianyu. Very knowledgeable. Great English. Chose a great local Chinese restaurant in a village for lunch. We pointed at the menu pictures to order. Delicious. The Summer Palace and the 2008 Olympic site were interesting. We ended the tour with a ban! I asked to be taken to the ‘snack market’, the Wangfujing Night Market, with lines of 50 stalls selling unbelievable food items. I ate a roasted sparrow head and all and 3 deep fried scorpions, live ones on skewers waiting their turn near by! We couldn’t have had a better day nor found all these places on our own. well spent.

- Whilst some may think it too much to do both these things in one day we felt this tour managed time and logistics very well. Our guide Peter really cared that our experience was tailored to our wishes. He provided much information about the sites and handled all tickets and routes smoothly. We asked many questions and he answered them all. Hotel pickup was on time and we had asked for an early start to escape Beijing traffic. Peter outlined options for at the wall and we chose the cablecar to the top. This gave us more time to walk along a section before coming back down. We were delighted it was a no shopping tour since we avoided all the traders. Lunch in a local restaurant was very good and again took our personal preferences into account. We even tried Chinese firewater!
The afternoon at the Summer Palace was good although more time would have allowed greater exploration. Peter guided us smoothly through the complex, providing commentary along the way.
Normally we are independent travelers and avoid tours. However we would thoroughly recommend this experience. We very much appreciated both Peter and our driver’s efforts. Whilst we read that tipping is not done in China we hope that they both are paid well for their work.

- WOW!!!! Such a perfect day in every way!!! We were picked up by the most adorable Lisa for our trip to Cuandixia. We hit it off with her from the beginning and knew we would have a fun time with her. The drive to the village was about 2.5 hours but was such a nice change going in to the mountains. It was clear and blue and so different than being in Beijing. Beautiful change of scenery! We walked through the charming village with Lisa and were able to look inside the homes for a first hand view of how people there live. We met many of the locals and they all wanted us to join them for lunch. So sweet and warm and welcoming! Just wonderful people! We finally joined a family for lunch and they made anything in the US billed as Farm to Table seem silly!!! They literally picked the vegetables from their gardensand the other delicacies we as fresh as can be and prepared and delivered them to our table. The food just kept coming. And it was some of the best we have ever eaten!!! Such an amazing experience and getting to share it with Lisa and our driver Mr. Yung was an added treat. We ate and ate and played silly games with bottle caps with Lisa. Mr Yung disappeared for a minute and brought me back Buddha praying hands carved by a local artisan. I will cherish his gift forever!
This was our last day in Beijing and to say we said goodbye in the most memorable way is an understatement. Lisa is amazing and we would highly recommend her and the kind Mr.Yung to everyone. It will be a day we will remember forever!

- Roy was a great tour guide! He really knows a lot about the sites that we went to – especially the Llama Temple and the Summer Palace, and it was easy to tell what his favorite parts of each stop were. He was very considerate about my dad’s age and dietary needs and found good restaurants that we could all enjoy. Our tour didn’t go exactly to plan because of the National Conference, but Roy improvised and we still had a great time : The trip to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall was a little funny because there are a lot of vendors everywhere trying to sell you things and Roy told us, Just ignore them. I’ll tell you where to buy the same things cheap in the city. so we got rushed past the souvenirs and then Roy gave us directions to the souvenir street and offered to drop us off there at the end of the day. It was really nice to be on a tour and not feel pressured to buy anything from the street vendors.I would really recommend this tour, and tour company, to anyone coming to Beijing – the guides are knowledgeable and their English is excellent, the drivers are reliable and quick, and it really is a nice, relaxing way to see the city and learn about China’s history.

- We highly recommend this tour as this section of the Great Wall, Mutianyu, was excellent with its numerous restored Watchtowers and both the outer and inner parapets are crenelated with merlons with makes for fabulous photographs. We chose to take the chairlift up and the toboggan down which not only fun but it allowed us to have about an hour and half walking several kilometres along the wall. As it was winter time the surrounding vegetation was not green but the low number of tourists on the wall at this time of the year made it an extremely positive experience.

- As many other reviewers have mentioned, of all the many day trips to the wall advertised I would recommend this one. Why? Because it’s value for money as half the price of some other similar tours. And when you have a family group it makes a big difference that it is 100 pp instead of 200 pp. WE had the guide Roy and he was great. Very knowledgeable. It was very cold and smoggy in Beijing in the first week of January, so we were worried that visibility would be poor on the Wall. Thankfully, we left the smog behind and it was a perfectly clear, blue sky day on the Wall with hardly any other tourists! We had the Wall to ourselves and no queues. Roy let us decide how long we wanted to walk on the Wall and minded all our coats as walked it was a lot hotter than we thought once walking!. We chose the ‘less steep’ direction heading left at the top of the chairlift, but glad we did that as it was still quite up and down enough and the view is the same. Lots of photo opps. BTW Toboggan coming down was not a great experience for the two smaller in height members of our group, as the design of toboggan is such that smaller people can’t push the speed stick forward enough and then the toboggan slows down… problem for people behind. If the ride attendants spaced the toboggans out it would not have been a problem but they dont’… Roy says it happens all the time and there is a big backlog. Anyway, probably would just catch the chairlift down again or recommend that to shorter people! . Lunch in local village was delicious and Roy ordered great food for us. Summer Palace was very good – just strolled through it all, which was fine for our group. The frozen lake was very beautiful. Gardens winter- barren but with less crowds, that’s a good trade-off. Could have stopped off at the Birds Nest, but we weren’t interested in that, so didn’t would not recommend. All in all a wonderful lifetime experience. I Also used the same tour company to book my airport transfers at 300RMB with a 7 seater van. Very good service and communication! So that’s a bonus.

- Great tour- good value for the money. Clean car, professional service. Our guide Roy was incredible. So knowledgeable! The history lesson alone in the first 30 minute son the car ride was terrific. Highly recommend you request Roy as possible, and Mr. Sun our driver, was so kind and helpful, too. Hopefully you do this trip when the tobagen ride is open at the Great Wall – looks like so much fun. Unfortunately, we went during winter so it was closed. But I can’t say enough positive accolades about the tour.

- As we were the only folks signed up for a Wednesday tour, we got a private tour. It was great!!! Bella, our guide, showed up with a car and a driver at our hotel and whisked us off to the Mutianyu section of the great wall. Very modern and clean facility, the cable car area for the ride up the mountain looked like a small ski resort area. At he top of mountain, we saw the Great Wall snaking on the top of the ridge, it was fantastic! They then took us to a great local restaurant between the Great Wall and Ming’s Tombs for lunch. Likewise, the Ming Tombs were very well kept and clean. Our guide, Bella, spoke English very well and was well informed on history and architecture. We had a fantastic day.

The wall was incredible and the toboggan ride down was a blast. The history behind the wall and then lunch at a local restaurant was excellent the food was locally grown and you could taste the freshness. The Summer Palace was amazing and we ended at a Tea House for a tea ceremony. Truthfully, our daughter wanted to go more than us but it was great and a lot of fun…. - There was a problem with finding our driver as they had my name incorrectly on their board whe. We came out of customs. They had my second name instead of my first and as the driver didn’t speak English it was initially a bit hard toe plain the problem even though the hotel to which we were going was the same. Luckily aomeone standing near did some interpreting. Even then driver was concerned that he did have the right passengers. He converted his text to English and it was then that I could see that my first name was on the top line and the driver had missed it. Apart from this it was a smooth but long transfer to hotel, not unusual for Beijing. Driver polite and helpful even though he didn’t speak Snglish. Would use this service again

- Our group of three adults and two 12 year-old children has a great time on this tour, and our tour guide, Bella, was awesome. We had a great mix of safe and unusual Chinese food, and there was plenty to go around. I wouldn’t consider any of us foodies or overly adventurous eaters, but we still ate everything that was presented to us and all left with our stomachs full. Bella definitely catered the tour for us, always asking if we were interested in trying something before ordering us the food of course, we always said yes – what’s the point of this tour otherwise?. In addition to the tour, we also learned about the Hutong and it’s residences. If you want to experience how and where the locals eat in a safe and untimidating setting, this is the tour. We tried all kinds of dishes that I would have never even known about had I not taken to tour. WARNING: read the list of dishes you will try in the details section, not at all for those who are not adventurous! You can pass on certain items, but you will miss out on all the fun if you skip too many. The private tour for my family of four was the way to go. Sally did a great job. My favorite part of our trip to China was our time at the Great Wall. I would have liked to have been there for the whole day. We walked as much as we could and it was not very crowded, so that was nice for photos. The toboggan ride down was fun too. We had a good lunch at a local restaurant. I have to eat gluten free and Sally did a good job of ordering so I could try everything. The Summer Palace was beautiful. It was nice to have a guide to share the meaning of everything. Pickup and drop off at our hotel made life easier.
My wife, nine-year-old daughter and I took two tours with Discover Beijing. For both tours, we had Alice as a guide. Our first tour was the Great Wall at Mutianyu and the Summer Palace. Our second tour was the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng and the Ming Tombs.
We had wanted to go to two places on the wall and we weren’t interested in Badaling because of the crowds. I had already decided on Mutianyu. I contacted Discover Beijing and Qian recommended Huanghuacheng as a second destination.
Qing was great during all the arrangements, especially since my visa was very slow in getting approved so I was afraid of booking anything before it was approved.
Our daughter has tree nut and shellfish allergies and Alice was great at making sure everywhere we ate accommodated her allergies. In fact, one of the things I liked most about our tours is that we ate at authentic places. We didn’t travel all the way to China to eat Subway.
Alice was very patient with our daughter and gave us a great background of everything we saw. She took us to a great souvenir place in Beijing that was much more reasonable than anywhere else we saw, selling the same stuff.
Both of our tours went off without a hitch and we couldn’t have been happier about the experience. Having private tours really made it a customized experience for us.
We joined a tour offered by Qing (pronounced as Ching) set up by a delightful couple we met on-line, then personally in Singapore before embarking in Sapphire Princess. We were blessed with excellent weather the entire four days in Beijing; dry, mostly clear, with little of the infamous smog. My COPD relished that it was clear….Qing led us on rapid, thorough jaunt of all the major Beijing tourism must-do’s and I huffed and puffed relatively lightly!. She was remarkably candid in answering questions regarding life in contemporary China, and interspersed her “official tourism spiel” with personal examples of the good, the bad and the reality of living in society vastly different in culture from our western model.
We were particularly impressed with the opportunity to see a small slice of rural life as we drove to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. She was also quite accommodating in finding a comfortable waiting spot for my wife, who chose not to try ascending to the Wall by cable car.
Her husband drove the large Buick van we used with an uncanny ability to squeeze thru impossibly congested traffic to our various stops. He also served as major-domo for our two lunch stops in local restaurants, where he ordered for the group. His ability to select the just-right menu introduced us to some excellent cuisine that was pure local, not tourist fare! Every meal was an adventure, and the food uniformly delicious. For us, the top experiences were the hutong tour, acrobatic show, Great Wall and Temple of Heaven.
The only negative, and clearly beyond Qing’s control, was that two of our three days were over the weekend, so the crowds were extremely dense.
RECOMMENDATION:
I did both the “Hutong Food Walking Tour”, and the “Beijing By Night when it Sparkles Tour ” with Discover Beijing Tours and Qing is AMAZING!!! Both tours were some of the best things we did in our almost 3 weeks in China, and others we recommended this to strongly agreed.
BACKGROUND:
I travelled to Beijing a couple of days in advance of a set group tour for teens and their families and was looking for something different to do before our group tour began. I had been to Beijing before and wanted a more honest view of the city and Qing and Discover Beijing Tours did not disappoint. Qing customized the tours to just what we wanted to see, and gave us an honest and personable view of the city.
HINTS:
If taking the Beijing at Night when it Sparkles tour, I highly recommend including the Flag Lowering Ceremony at Tiananmen Square. The lights on each building go on one by one after the flag is lowered and its truly a unique and awe inspiring sight. The other modern buildings in Beijing, like the Olympic Buildings and the huge LED screen ceiling at The Place are a nice contrast to the old Hutongs and traditional Beijing tourists usually see. And other than the stop at Tiananmen Square which is on foot, this tour is primarily on a bus (with ample time to get off and walk around if you would like), so its a great way to sit back and relax while you tour the city with an expert guide.
If doing the Hutong Food Walking Tour my advise is to GO HUNGRY!! You will visit about 20 different small restaurants tasting cuisine from all over the country that you never would have found on your own. Our favorites were the dumplings (stop #1) and the Muslim food (the last stop). The visit to her mother’s Hutong is a very touching and honest view of what its really like to live in Beijing and puts other “tourist” Hutong tours to shame.

I can’t recommend Qing or these tours strongly enough – everyone in our group from 12 years old to 72 years old had an amazing time on both tours. I can’t imagine anyone not being blown away by Qing’s charm and knowledge of the best spots to see and eat in the city.

Great tour! We really enjoyed our 4 hour tour through the Hutong’s and getting to sample a large variety of local food. We tried so many things we hadn’t gotten to try before and really liked most of them. Qing was an excellent guide and we learned a lot of history about the hutong’s and the food we were eating. I highly recommend this tour.

This tour is HIGHLY recommended. We had a great time. This is the best way to see Beijing we have traveled a lot and this is hands down the best tour we have taken. Our guide Qing was AWESOME she spoke great English and was very helpful. She was flexible to do what we wanted she helped us negotiate prices on souvenirs she even ran a couple of errands for me as I needed to get something at the store. She picked great restaurants and great food. We had a good driver and nice clean car. We had all the water we could drink and our guide was extremely personable it felt like traveling with your family. If we wanted to go faster on some things and slower on others we could. The tour was totally flexible and we got very different insight to the culture. We did not have to go to any specific shops or tours and everything was included. This tour made everything easy especially if you are a foreigner and do not speak the local language. We had 4 days between business trips and we covered everything that we wanted and then some. It was an amazing experience and we made new friend. I would recommend the private tour you will see a lot more and really get a true feeling of the local culture!!

This was the perfect tour for us! We spent 3 active days in Beijing with our guide Qing and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. For the limited time we had, it allowed us to see the major sites. Qing and her driver knew the best drop off and pick up locations and manuveured the entrances with ease and no waste of time. At each site and while in the car, Qing gave very thorough and interesting explanations providing information we could never have received on our own or with an audio tour. We saw all the major sites with ease and enjoyed several great meals. The meals are included per the itineray and the restaurants were preselected based on our tastes so there was no fuss in selecting a restaurant and what to eat. We felt the tour was a good value for the experiences we had. The meals and entrance fees were included so we had no additional costs. Qing was professional and personable throughout the 3 days. Be sure to take the Tobaggan ride down from the Great Wall it was awesome!
The motto of the company is memories that last a lifetime and they lived up to that statement. From the moment they picked us up at the airport to dropping us at the cruise terminal there wasn’t a problem with anything. We have wonderful memories and lots and lots of photos. Our guide was exceptional. She catered to our every need and demonstrated an excellent knowledge of her country’s landmarks. It was China’s week of public holidays in October with many people at the sites. Our guide manoeuvred us through the crowds without a problem. She found the best positions for taking photos. We have learnt about China’s history. We planned our itinerary with the help of the company and our guide showed us this and more. Nothing was a hassle. We would definitely book through Bejing Tours again if we return to China. We definitely have memories (and photos) that will last a lifetime thanks to our guide, driver and BeijingTours.

China was such an unknown destination for me however our lovely guide, Becky, soon put our minds (and feet) at rest. With her skilled driver who did a u turn in the busy Beijing traffic on our first day and took us straight to The Great Wall because of the beautiful clear blue sky and the amazingly warm weather. My fear of heights and having to use the Gondola was again gently eased by Becky. The experience was so spectacular and I felt so exhilarated there that i could have hang glided down if i was allowed! Becky patiently waited while my husband wished to walk to the next gate. She knew the best places to take fantastic photos, was able to manage 2 cameras together, knew her history inside out ( she has a degree in ‘Guiding’!) She was kind, informative, helpful in her advice of the best times to visit Shrines and Palaces, I could live at The Temple of Heaven, such a great experience seeing locals out exercising, sharing stories, doing calligraphy, dancing in the grounds. Apart from the major sites of The Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Tiananmen Square, she took us at our request to The Pearl Market, advised of best shopping options, Peking Duck Dinners and answered our questions with great knowledge and impeccable English. It was like travelling with a friend! She arranged a rickshaw ride through the Hutongs and cycled behind us so she could explain what was going on, followed by a gorgeous lunch at Quing’s mothers house. This trip could not have gone better. Thank you so much Becky and we hope to come back one day!!!
Planning our private tour with Qing was very easy. She provides many suggestions and is agreeable to all of our requests.
We had so much fun in Beijing.
First off, the tour was stress-free. Schedules were all on time. Soon as we left the arrival hall in the airport, the driver was there waiting for us. We were also surprised that they also provide water during the whole trip. This was a big help, especially during our hike on the Great Wall.
Beijing is really an amazing place to visit. Everything is grand (e.g. Great Wall, Forbidden City, the acrobatics show, etc.) but what made our trip extra special was Qing and her stories of China, not to forget her good English in telling them. The stories were all relevant and interesting that, even though my family travels mostly for the sites to see, we were hooked onto listening up to the last bit of information Qing tells.
To top it all off, food was yummy, weather was great as temperature remained cool most of the trip (travelled there late September), and we were never taken to places we don’t like (e.g. silk and medicine shops).
I recommend going to these places: Mutianyu Portion of The Great Wall of China, The Summer Palace, The Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven and the Chaoyang Acrobatics Theatre. Would’ve wanted to have a closer look of the Beijing Olympic Park but we didn’t have time to do that. Try to skip the Rickshaw Tour in Beijing Hutong Area. Qing actually recommended a walking tour of another hutong area but we didn’t listen. 😀 Lastly, consider the traffic in Beijing when planning for the tour.
Our 3-day tour with Discover Beijing and Qing was amazing. It was the best tour we had so far in any country.

Our guide was highly knowledgeable, informative, helpful and funny. Not to mention genuine, which was rather refreshing during our stay in China.
You will see some fantastic, historical locations, hear great stories and have a good lunch. In the meantime you will not have to buy anything.

Unfortunately one of our suitcases went missing in transit so we ended up being delayed in our arrival.
Luckily our private driver was still waiting 1 hour after our plane landed. And my Mother in law was suffering from motion sickness and proceeded to wretch into a bag on the way to our hotel. Not the best start, but our driver did not bat an eye.
Got to recommend service like that.

Excellent tour and guide and driver. We were able to arrange a train station pickup for one of our party and wait for a shower, for an extra cost which we were gladly willing to pay.
This part of the Wall is quite rugged and I would not recommend it for the weak. Lots of stairs even after the ski lift up to the wall. The toboggan ride down was a blast!!
There is an option of taking the ski lift down again or the gondola both ways.
Our guide gave us historical insight into the wall and the Summer palace. I could not imagine going to the Summer palace without a guide to explain the history and significance of the buildings we saw. It would not be the same.
I would highly recommend this tour for adventuresome people and this tour operator.
Our guide, Yelu, spoke fluent English, being an English major in university. She was happy to allow us to spend as much time as we liked at various places. Lots of pictures were taken.
It was nice to be able to phone the tour operator prior to the day to arrange for the train pickup and ask questions. Viator sent the contact information in order to do that.

Fantastic service. Driver there waiting for us, a really nice, pleasant helpful guy, with a lovely clean air conditioned car too. I would have no hesitation in using this company again and can highly recommend them.
We signed up for the Beijing Food Tour and were greeted at our hotel promptly by Qing. As we were beginning the tour she asked us about our plans for the rest of our time in Beijing. I mentioned off hand that we planned to visit the Forbidden City later in the day and Qing immediately advised us that there is a limited number of tickets sold per day and that if we waited until the afternoon we would be unable to visit.
Qing then offered to amend our tour and take us both to the Forbidden city AND do the Food tour. Instead of a 4-hour day she ended up staying with us for 6 hours and only charged us a small additional fee (which was WELL worth it). Without Qing we would have definitely missed the Forbidden City.
She was extremely knowledgeable about the Forbidden City and was great about making sure we saw the highlights but still would have time for the food tour. She told us interesting historical anecdotes and stories and tailored the experience to us.
The food tour is a one-of-a-kind experience. We started with dumplings which were familiar to our American palate but quickly moved onto much more unique foods. Qing knew all the best places and took care of ordering for us. Visiting the restaurants would have been a great experience in and of itself but Qing also arranged for us to visit her family home where her mother had prepared noodles for us.
At Qing’s home, her mother and father were very accommodating, and took an interest in us. I made a comment about Qing’s father’s impressive liquor collection and he insisted that we sample some of his rice wine (which was very strong but delicious).
At the end of the day Qing created a quick itinerary for us to see the Temple of Heaven and make it back to Tiananmen Square in time for the flag lowering ceremony. She brought us into the subway and put us on the correct train before leaving.
Overall, Qing treated us like family all day and made sure that the tour was tailored to our interests and time constraints. Although we were very tired by the end of it, we had a fantastic day. I cannot recommend the trip enough.
Thank you Qing!

I spent 4 days with Qing, which was preceded by probably 6 months of emails. I’ll start from the beginning…
Qing was recommended to me by a friend. I was told that she was incredible and I shouldn’t consider anyone else. Boy was my friend right. From the moment I wrote to Qing inquiring into her availability to our departure from Beijing, I couldn’t have been more pleased. I’m a little high maintenance and she promptly and politely responded to my emails in nearly perfect English. She didn’t even blink when I kept asking her to change things or to add things. This made the planning process much easier than I could have imagined.
Then, the arrival in Beijing. Qing arranged an airport transport which was super convenient–I would recommend all of her guests do this. The guide found us in the hectic Beijing airport and helped us navigate the way out. It was still hectic with him given the crowds, but I can’t imagine trying to navigate the airport and a taxi on my own. Moreover, the price was super reasonable (only slightly more than a regular taxi but well worth the moderate price increase).
Then, on day 1, Qing met us exactly on time as planned with a huge smile on her face. For me, being in my late 20s, it was pretty great to have someone who was my age who I can now say is my friend, but I have no doubt that she would be great with families (she has an almost 3 year old boy) or even older folks. She consulted with us each day (morning in afternoon) regarding what we’d be doing and asked whether we wanted to add anything. She was on time. She knows SO much about every site you see. She anticipated nearly all of our questions, and even when she didn’t anticipate them, she always had an answer. Given how hot it was, she would always be aware of the heat and make sure we were well hydrated and try to give us “story time” before arriving at the location to minimize the time we spent in the sun (I sunburn easily and she was super conscious of this). It truly made things better because I can’t imagine how miserable all those tourists sitting and listening to their guides in the hot sun were–we were able to learn what we needed to know about the sites and then walk through them at our own pace without having to feel like we were going to pass out from the heat.
Not only did Qing have a great grasp on the history of Beijing, she also has a great grasp on the food! Qing took us to some truly wonderful local spots that we never would have found without her. And even if we had, we never would have been able to eat there because we wouldn’t have known how to order. Because of this, we were able to try a wide variety of Chinese food. This also cut down on our food costs. For example, one day, our lunch for 5 was $22. Are you kidding!! And, it was amazing. It really doesn’t get better than that.
I also want to talk about her husband because he deserves a shout out–occasionally, you will be so lucky to have her husband as your driver (I100% recommend a car, especially in the summer because it is SO hot). His English is not nearly as good as Qing’s, but he more than gets by. He has a wonderful sense of humor and personality that makes the trip even more enjoyable than it would be with just Qing. We really felt like welcome friends because of the two of them.
Lastly, we also felt like family. In one of my many emails to Qing, I had told her that we wanted to learn how to make dumplings. Immediately she offered to take us to her home to have her mother teach us. This was the most special part of a three week trip (only 4 full days in Beijing). Qing and her mom took us to the market to buy all the ingredients and then taught us how to make traditional pork and cabbage dumplings. I haven’t yet tried this at home, but I can’t wait! Not only did we learn to cook, but we also really felt like family. We had the opportunity to eat with her, her son (who is insanely cute), her mom, and her mother in law. Even though her mom and mother in law don’t speak English, they really embraced us as their friends.
I wouldn’t exchange this opportunity for the world and am so grateful that we spent these days with Qing.
We only had one weekend in Beijing and a bucket list wish to have Yoga photos taken on the Great Wall and the toboggan ride down. After searching through reviews and customizable tours we picked this tour company. It certainly did not disappoint.
All of our requests were handled professionally and without issue. Our guide Yelu was an English major at university, so she spoke English very well. Our driver was top-notch as well, but I’m sorry for forgetting his name.
One party in our group of 2 had flown in from Guangzhou the night before, and the other had to take the sleeper train from Shanghai. She needed transportation from the train station to the hotel, so that was the first customization we did. I was able to call to speak to the tour operator a couple of days before to make these arrangements. We also asked that she have time to take a shower at the hotel before starting our tour. They were so accommodating, and we left on our tour at 9 am rather than the usual 8:30.
We had chosen the Great Wall at Mutianyu because that is the location of the toboggan ride down, but also has some spectacular views that do not disappoint. The Summer Palace was our afternoon activity. These were the furthest things from the hotel so got them out of the way our first day.
The tour we booked included all admission fees except the Dragon boat at the Summer Palace (which was only 15 CNY so not much). We had all the bottled water we wanted and a fabulous lunch at an authentic Chinese restaurant also included in the tour price. Our guide pre-ordered to save us valuable tour time.
We spent more time than usually allotted at the Wall because of the Yoga pose photography. Our guide was more than happy to take all the pictures we asked her to. She was very knowledgeable and fun to be with.
We took the ski lift up and the toboggan down and I would highly recommend this. It was a blast.
The Summer Palace would not have been the same without our guide. She gave us information about the history and buildings we were seeing. The dragon boat across the lake was enjoyable and offered views that were not seen from the paths.
We chose not to spend too much time there and this allowed us to return at the normal tour return time, even with our later lunch stop.
Both of these attractions are top things in Beijing to see. I highly recommend Discover Beijing tours as the company that will customize your trip the way you like.
I was in Beijing last April with my family and engaged the services of Qing’s tour company for the duration of our stay. As we wanted to have flexibility in terms of our time & places to visit, we opted to hire a private car with driver and guide. As Qing herself was already booked to guide another group, it was Coco who served as our guide during our entire stay. Coco was very warm and friendly, and very very helpful! When we had problems communicating with our hotel staff, she was proactive enough to step in and help us sort things out. She was also very mindful of my parents’ limited mobility and made sure that they were well taken care of.
We only had a limited time in Beijing, but with Qing and Coco’s advice we were able to make the most of our trip. We saw all the major sights we wanted to see, such as the Great Wall, Forbidden Palace, Temple of Heaven, and Tiananmen Square. Apart from that, we were also able to have a quick tour of the beautiful hutongs around the Back Lakes area, through a pre-arranged rickshaw tour which was a lovely experience. The tours also included our lunches everyday, which were all DELICIOUS! They made sure to bring us to places that served great food, and as we were with Coco, we were able to sample authentic Beijing food. Our package even included 1 Peking duck dinner, which was superb.
Overall, we had a great time in Beijing thanks to Coco and Qing as well as the driver (sorry, I forgot his name!). Even planning the trip was a breeze, as Qing was very fast in responding to emails and very helpful in giving tips and suggestions. We wouldn’t hesitate to contact Qing again should we ever be in Beijing again.
The reason why Discover Beijing Tour is not #1 on Trip Advisor, is do to their website being a little difficult to navigate. We had the pleasure to embark on the Beijing “Food Tour” with Qing, the owner of the company. What a fantastic experience it was!
After looking at several different companies on Trip Advisor, I found Discover Beijing to be one of the only companies that offered a compelling food tour. I contacted Qing through the website and a date was set. On the day of the tour Qing picked us up at the lobby of our hotel. We then proceeded to walk to her mother’s Hutong. On the way we snacked and tasted several different items. Some unique, some familiar. The amount and variety of food we consumed was quite amazing! I ate at places one could tell were not “touristy.” Qing never pressured us to eat or try anything. She would ask us if we were up to try something, and even when we did order it- there was not a sense that we had to eat it. Two items I tried that I ended up enjoying quite a bit, were Donkey meat and Fish skin! We ate more common items as well, such as Dumplings and hot pot style kabobs.
We ended the tour at her mom’s residence (can’t get more intimate than that!) Where Qing’s mother, a sweet lady, had prepared us fresh homemade noodles! The entire tour lasted about 4-5 hours. It was definitely a highlight! Even after the tour Qing made a point to help us out with some last minute things we wanted to do!
Qing never hassled us for a tip or a review of any kind. She told us that the Food Tour was not a very popular option. I think this is because it is hard to locate on her website. If you have the opportunity, TAKE THIS TOUR! It really gives your palette an accurate taste of what some local Beijing people eat!
We found Qing’s , Discover Beijing Tours, through TripAdvisor, and unlike many people we contacted, she was friendly and keen to make sure that we had a custom made experience in Beijing. She was prompt with correspondence, flexible and apart from the day when her son accidentally switched off her phone, easy to get hold of!
We planned to spend 2 days in Beijing, arriving at the port of Tianjin on a cruise. Qing arranged for a minibus to collect the four of us from the port, and as we drove into Beijing, we collected Bella who would be our guide for the duration of our stay. Bella was delightful, with excellent English and a great knowledge of the city and its heritage. She adjusted her tour to suit us, so on the first day we started off at Tiananmen Square then moved onto the Forbidden City, and finally the Summer Palace before we were dropped at our hotel. At each stage, Bella explained the history and interesting points about the venues. On the second day we started with a rickshaw (a pedalled version!) ride around some of the older streets in the city, and visited a private house to hear about its history. We then drove to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China (chosen because it is well preserved and not too busy) – we took a shuttle bus to the cable car, at which point Bella left us. We spent two hours on the wall then rejoined her, although we could have stayed for longer had we wanted to. After that, we were driven back to the port.
In all, we had a wonderful time, knew we were in safe and reliable hands, and we would highly recommend Discover Beijing Tours to any visitor to the city.
We visited Beijing in the first week of June. We are Singaporean Chinese and can speak Mandarin well so many find it funny why we would engage an English-speaking tour guide for our trip. We planned our holiday to Beijing as a sort of “Chinese immersion” trip for our son who only started learning Chinese formally this year. We wanted an English-speaking tour guide to engage and interest our 7-years-old boy and introduce the Great Wall to him because the Great Wall day trip was the “highlight” of the holiday for him. We visited the other sites like temple of heaven, forbidden city, local hutongs without a guide on our own.
From the beginning, Qing has been very helpful in answering our queries on email and giving us advice. She assigned Becky to bring us to the Great Wall and our boy really loved her company and had a great time on the Great Wall. He was ill during the trip and Becky and our driver brought us around the city to try to buy western medicines for him – we are very thankful and appreciative of that after having met no success at the numerous local pharmacies around our hotel who declined to sell us paediatric western medicines without a prescription.
Becky was great with our boy and managed to engage and involve him during the trip even though he was a little bored with seeing palace after palace and grew tired after climbing on the Great Wall. She patiently waited for him to climb up and down each tower. He even wrote about her in his holiday journal!
The next day, the same driver brought us out to Longqing Gorge – a really nice scenic place where we could have a leisurely cruise, did a little hiking and had a nice picnic on a rock overhang. It is a nice place to bring young children and to see something different – for our boy it was a nice change of scene after several days of historical visit to temples, palaces. He had fun riding up the dragon escalator, river cruise, rowing a small dinghy boat with daddy and taking a cable car ride and short toboggan slide down.
Becky is thoughtful, attentive and focused on client’s needs, our driver was very friendly and drove safely. Qing was very sincere in helping us meet our needs during our tour and even offered advice for visits to sites which we did on our own – she wasn’t obliged to help us with that but she still went out of her way to do so. We’re glad to have met them and will recommend their services to others who are visiting Beijing with young children.
My boss and I were in Beijing for a work conference with one real day to hit the Great Wall and a few other “Must See” sights on our list. We heard about DBT from another colleague and immediately booked. The process was smooth, fast and easy. We were accommodated in short notice and given Becky’s name as our guide almost immediately.
When Becky arrived to pick us up that morning (prompt and on time might I add) we instantly fell in love with her. Her english was near perfect and she was extremely approachable, charming, sweet and funny to name a few of her traits. She had printed handouts of China’s history that she eloquently went over on our 2 hour drive to the Great Wall. She also had great Chinese cheat-sheets on the language for clueless Americans to learn. It felt like any question we asked, she knew the answer.
Moreover, we picked a standard “Full Day Great Wall Tour” but ended up craving more to see than just that. While this was not part of our “deal”, Becky never hesitated in extending our day and even custom creating special stops along the way. She took us to Old Beijing, got us a Rickshaw ride to an old home, scored us a private tea tasting and took us to an amazing authentic lunch to name a few! We loved that every part of our day felt special, unique and not overly touristy. So many places matched her stories of the amazing, romantic tapestry that is Beijing as a city.
I can’t recommend DBT and Becky as a guide enough! She MADE our trip and we haven’t been able to stop talking about her!! Thank you so much!
I typically book my trips 7-10 months in advance as I LOVE researching our destinations to create the best itinerary possible, but most importantly, it gives me ample time to research guides. If you’re reading this attempting to determine which guiding service to use in Beijing you can stop as I did all the homework for you. I literally reached out to every Beijing guide via email asking them specific questions about our time in Beijing, where to/where not to see, etc. and Qing of Discover Beijing Tours gave the most thorough and most personalized responses. Many of the other companies will give you detailed descriptions, but they only send you their generic itinerary rather than customizing to your actual wants and needs. Also, I spoke with some other tourists and some companies do NOT promise you the guide you’ve requested.
Although Qing was fantastic in her pre-trip emails, she was even better in person and I now consider her a good friend. My fiance and I never stopped laughing while around her, but at the same time, we never stopped learning about the rich and lengthy cultural history of China. Also, the itinerary she put together was perfect enjoying all the great sites plus experiencing a bit of regular daily local life. Thank you Qing and Discover Beijing Tours for an absolutely over the top three days in Beijing, we will be back and hope you can come visit us in California soon!
PS – Definitely try the “Traditional Noodle Lunch” at Qing’s mother’ house as she makes the best noodles in Beijing by far!!!
We have said many, many times since our return from Beijing in December 2013 that having Qing as our private tour guide was the key to our wonderful visit to China. Qing and her husband Wang were so knowledgeable, caring and flexible. They took care of every detail and worked to customize our daily schedule to accommodate our every wish. They graciously made last minute changes and adjustments so that we were able to do and see everything we wanted to.
Qing captivated us with her stories and expansive knowledge of the history of the sights that we were seeing (Forbidden City, Great Wall, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven). She gave us just the right amount of information to keep both the adults and the teenagers engaged.
More than anything I felt very safe and cared for as though I had just come to visit a long-lost relative who wanted to show me all the amazing sights of Beijing. Qing was delightful, kind, funny, fun and most of all, quite normal. It was a very comfortable experience.
Just a small example of how well cared for we were. On our last day with Discover Beijing Tours Wang was scheduled to drive us to a conference center in a northern suburb of Beijing and drop us off. Upon reaching the huge hotel and finding no bellman and only one luggage cart he refused to leave us with all our luggage in the lobby and instead spent the next hour ferrying very heavy, awkward bags to our 5th floor room with only one small overcrowded elevator. He wanted to make sure that we were settled before he left us. I appreciated his kindness and concern tremendously.
Also, on one of our first days in Beijing when Qing was already booked we worked with her colleagues at Discover Beijing Tours named Amy and her driver Mr. Lee?. They were equally kind and knowledgeable.
I would highly recommend this professional tour group.
I recently got back from my first trip to China and wanted to pass along some thoughts on Discover Beijing Tours, who I used for a few days of my trip.
Pre-trip planning was smooth, as Qing and I traded emails once I submitted some tours that I wanted to sign up for. She was always very fast to get back to me as we formalized my plans. This gave me great peace of mind before I left, having this all set up in advance.
Qing’s husband was waiting for me at the Beijing Airport once I had gotten through customs and was very easy to find, before driving me to my hotel.
The next morning, Ashley, my tour guide, was waiting for me in my hotel’s lobby, right on time. This first day, she helped me get to know Tian’anmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Drum Tower. We also had a rickshaw ride in a hutong near the Drum Tower which was great!
The next day, Ashley met me again for a tour of the Great Wall (at Mutianyu) and the Ming Tombs at Dingling.
I’ll review these tourist attractions separately, but mostly want to pass along my thoughts on dealing with Qing and all of her staff at Discover Beijing Tours. Qing, her husband, my tour guide Ashley, and the two drivers I met- all are fantastic people to work with! Ashley was a fantastic guide, and very friendly, nice and easy to talk with. She helped me learn a lot that I probably would not have learned simply from reading any English signage.
I did a few days on my own and also spent a day in Nanjing, but for my first two days in Beijing, Discover Tours helped me a great deal, and made my trip to China so much better!

First, Qing (pronounced “Ching”) is a delightful person and really caters to her customers. She is a 30 something and was not only very knowledgeable but also funny, open, warm, and willing to discuss things about Chinese culture and politics. I really appreciated that. I tend to ask a lot of questions so the fact that she put up with me, and answered many questions about culture and politics (as best she could) was awesome.
My fist day was the Great Wall and Ming Tombs trip. It included a lunch en route to the Ming Tombs. The lunch was very good and definitely not a tourist stop. She mentioned to me that she prefers the more authentic places for her clients….and this was more authentic. I appreciated it very much. We selected our own fish (with a net) and they BBQ’d it up. During our conversation, she mentioned that she has learned not to order too spicy or too many intestines for lunch when working with Americans. I appreciate that.
One thing that Qing does….and I realized this when I went on to Shanghai and used another “on-the-spot” guide, is that she works for you — her client. Many guides seem to work for the vendors or travel agents and take you to places to spend money. Qing mentioned that if we wanted to buy something, to tell her and she would help us figure out a good negotiating price. She said we needed to do it “away” from the negotiation though so she doesn’t get “black-listed” by the vendors. You could tell she was working for us. I realized that this was worth a bit more money. When I paid a bit less in Shanghai…I got someone who works with the vendors and gets kickbacks…it was obvious.
The second day was at the Forbidden City. Qing was booked (she told me in advance) and so she had another guide take me — Lucy. She was also very knowledgeable and super engaging. We enjoyed her a lot too. The half-day tour only lasted about 2-1/2 hours. On one hand, I felt a little bit slighted about that, but it was a very hot day and we were all getting pretty tired. In Lucy’s defense, she did ask if we wanted to see some other things. My suggestion would be for the guides to offer alternatives if the activity runs fast.
Having said that….Qing and Lucy were great guides and provided much knowledge and benefit. Since Qing is the owner, she does take phone calls during travel which at first seemed a bit odd. But, I realized she was helping other clients get from the airport to their hotel, etc. So, I appreciated that I could call her anytime too. She is a small business owner trying to make a buck. I like that.
Finally, I will say that Qing is VERY accommodating. I switched my trips (1/2 and full day) at the last minute due to a work obligation. She was super willing to do whatever worked for me. Oh, and she also bought me train tickets. She charged a reasonable fee for the service. I was pleased.
Qing had arranged for a driver to meet us at the airport and take us to our hotel, and despite our flight being two hours late, he was there as promised and took us directly to our hotel.
We had arranged three day tours, and Lu, (Ashley) was our guide on all three days.
She was delightful – informative and relevant, speaking excellent English, and happy to give us all the time needed to explore and take photos as well as for comfort and shopping stops.
Our first trip was around Beijing, and on her advice we went to the Temple of Heaven first, where as well as the beautiful buildings and gardens, we saw the locals engage in their morning activities, t’ai chi, board and card games, crochet (their beautiful work was for sale at bargain prices) and many other social and sporting activities. Lu then guided us around a very crowded Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City (avoid Saturday if possible) giving us a great insight into the life of the emperor.
Next we ‘dined with the family’. We were led through a rabbit warren of passages to a courtyard house in a hutong, where Qing’s mum prepared a delicious lunch of pork, noodles and vegetables Beijing style, and treated us like old friends of the family. We saw the wedding photos, compared photos of our grandchildren, and had a lovely chat with Lu as our translator. It was one of the highlights of our trip to China. Our day finished with a visit to the Lama Temple and we returned to our hotel, heads brimming with experiences, but not exhausted or footsore. Our other two days were at the Great Wall at Mutianyu and the Ming tombs, and the LongQin gorge. Lu’s gentle delivery of information, the delicious lunches in out of the way( and dubious looking from the outside!) restaurants, and the absence of the enforced shopping factory visits that many other tours include, made our time in Beijing memorable, not just for its history and culture, but for the kindness and hospitality of its people. Highly recommended!
I’m from San Francisco. I have been traveling to China for many years.
My first trip was to Beijing and I found Qing online. It was the trip of a lifetime thanks to Qing. She is deeply knowledgeable and very adept at tailoring the trip to a particular person’s needs and interests.
For example, I traveled with my 8 year old daughter and 73 year old mother. Qing knew shortcuts to avoid lines and minimize other challenges. She made it interesting for child and adult. I’m in a service industry and I know how important it is to value and understand the client. One size does not fit all. Qing understands this. Few tour guides, whether in Beijing or elsewhere, do.
I’ve traveled with Qing in Beijing as well as outside (e.g., Chengde and the Qing Tombs, beautiful though less traveled destinations for Beijing vacationers). She is highly knowledgeable and able to explain culture and history clearly and memorably. It’s astonishing how much she knows. It is remarkable how she is able to make it interesting and relevant whether speaking to a child or to a very educated professional with some background in Chinese history and culture.
Her English — written and spoken — is excellent. And in my many experiences, I have also found her husband to be not only an excellent and safe driver but a gentleman. Qing has a big and kind heart. She also has a wonderful and endearing sense of humor. She represents so much of what is lovable and beautiful about China, Beijing and its remarkable culture.
Make your trip to Beijing one to remember and a lifetime of happy memories. Go with Qing.
Back in 2006 i had the most unforgettable trip to China, and all the credit goes to Qing. She is passionate about history and travel, energetic and so down-to-earth friendly that i really felt as if i traveled with a friend. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and she is able to tailor her story-telling to your interests, be it a formal history lesson on a Ming Dynasty, or folklore stories about the secrets of the Forbidden City. She is very accommodating and flexible, and will take care of you, and will make your trip as luxurious, or simple as you desire. She is up for anything – a hike on The Great Wall, or an ice cream and people-watching at the city zoo. I had a great time discovering Beijing with her, and even got a chance to eat (and help prepare) the most delicious dumplings at her parents’ house (which, by the way, is located in the historical area of Beijing known as hutongs). After Beijing, she booked us an overnight train and we went to Xian, which was another destination on my list. She guided me all the way, showing her extensive knowledge, and totally sharing my love for travel. Oh, and she also booked my flight to Shanghai. I had a great trip. Qing is very much a people person, she is intuitive, friendly, caring, knowledgeable, resourceful, and just a joy to be around. She has her own transportation van, so she can comfortably take you to attractions and to/from airport. Look. even 7 years later i feel compelled to write this review for her, that has got to be an indication! 🙂

Great Tour with Qing
visited in 2008
My boyfriend and I visited Beijing for a week back in August. We booked Qing for 2 days and absolutely loved her. We wished we could have booked her for the whole week! I emailed Qing with a list of the places we wanted to visit, and she emailed right back with potential itineraries. She was totally communicative right until the time we arrived in Beijing.
We met her the first day in our hotel lobby, and we had the most amazing tours of the Temple of Heaven, Houhai Lake, and the Summer Palace. She took us for an amazing lunch, and was happy to accommodate us either by car or by public transportation (we opted for the bus). On day two, Qing gave us an amazing tour of the Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square. After a delicious hot pot lunch, we went to the Lama Temple, Imperial College and Confucius Temple. Yes, we packed a lot into 2 days!
We had limited time in Beijing and virtually no knowledge of the Chinese language. Qing was incredibly accommodating. She had great knowledge of history and culture and added a unique touch to every site we visited. Yes this is a glowing review because we couldn’t have been happier with her! She really saved our lives – she helped us navigate the city and even gave us tips for traveling when we were on our own. Beijing wouldn’t have been the same without her! I loved that we could create our own itinerary and really get a feel for the city the way that we wanted to without being stuck on a tour with 50 other people. We definitely would hire her again to help us see more of the city the next time we visit.
I have to say, there’s no beating a private tour. The freedom and depth of information that you get is really amazing.

Great Tour Guide Qing

Our family of 4 adults and 3 kids just returned from a wonderful trip to Beijing. I was pretty apprehensive as this was my first trip to China with my kids the youngest of whom is 3 years old. Thankfully we found Qing after trawling tripadvisor. She was truly marvellous right from our first contact via email. She writes and speaks good English and is very responsive. She recommended a great serviced apartment that exceeded our expectations. She went out of her way to help arrange extra beds and good rates with the hotel- we are grateful for this huge favor she did for us even before we had met her or paid her a cent!
I cannot sing enough praises of Qing and her husband Wang. Wang provided transport to and from the airport for us and also for our visit to the Great Wall. He was so nice and dependable – we always felt safe andcomfortable with him. Qing guided us for 2 days. She suggested a great itinerary that packed the Temple of Heaven, Beijing Zoo (for the pandas), the Summer Palace into day 1; and the Great Wall & Forbidden City into day 2. It sounded tiring at first but it wasn’t at all and the kids had a ball because of her interesting and insightful “story times” at each sight. Also she knew the best places to visit at each sight so our visits were “edited” to include only the “best of” everything. She is honest straightforward sincere helpful fun-loving and also has a wealth of knowledge to share about Beijing and it’s history. We also learned alot about life today in China for a young hardworking couple. We can honestly say that our visit to Beijing was wonderful because of Qing & Wang. We highly highly recommend them to anyone looking for a meaningful, stress-free, safe and happy visit to Beijing. By a very satisfied family from Singapore.

Qing and her husband were our tour guides for a few days in Beijing in spring 2012. She also set up our private tour to Xian. Qing made a foreign city feel like home to us and we highly recommend her. She has excellent knowledge of the city and will tailor your trip to exactly what you are most interested in. This was our second trip to China and Qing showed us the beauty of the Chinese people and we now have life long memories to enjoy.

Our family of five just completed four fantastic days of touring with Qing! We saw all the highlights of Beijing as well as the Her warm and personable style made us feel like we were traveling with a great friend. Her detailed historical stories brought the ancient wonders to life- she was even able to keep our 5, 8. and 11 year olds interested and excited. We also hired her husband to drive us to the great wall, around the town and even airport pickup/drop off which made our lives exceedingly easy.

My parents (aged in their 60’s) and niece (aged 11) were in Beijing last month. I arranged Qing’s husband to take them to the Mutiunyu section of the Great Wall. This selection was following reviews of Qing and her husband on TA. Qing was unavailable as a guide for the days they were in Beijing but her husband was available to take them to the Great Wall on one day.
My parents were thrilled with him. They have described him as being a very good driver and they felt as safe as possible with him (in very heavy traffic)
His vehicle was an airconditioned van with seatbelts and it was clean and well maintained.
He was on time to collect them from the hotel.
Qing had advised that her husband was not fluent in English and therefore was not a guide. However my parents and niece found they were able to communicate with him and that he was very friendly. They felt very comfortable with him.
After climbing the Wall they stopped at the SchoolHouse at Mutiunyu for lunch. He joined them at their table to eat together which they enjoyed. The SchoolHouse provides free meals for guides and drivers.
After lunch he drove them past the Olympic Bird’s Nest and Cube for photos.
The stops were exactly as arranged with Qing prior to the visit. He did not make any “shopping stops”.
My parents would not hesitate to use Qing’s husband as a driver if in Beijing again.
Hope this is useful for anyone wanting to use a driver in Beijing.

Great Trip and Great Guide

Just back from a week in Beijing and it was an excellent experience. Went with my 18 year old son. Stayed at the Novotel Peace Hotel which was very nice, good service. The best part of the trip was our guide Qing who was so helpful, knowledgeable, fun, and wonderful. We went to all the great sites and got to shop for Chinese fashions in the places that most tourists never find. We have many wonderful memories from our fabulous trip. Thanks, Qing — you’re the best!

My wife and I spent 2 days with Quing in Beijing a couple weeks ago and couldn’t have been happier.
On our 1st day she and her husband(he serves as a driver when needed) took us to the Mutianyu portion of the Great Wall. We had lunch at a great dumpling restaurant and then we asked her to take us to the Pearl Market. Qing was very helpful as she let us know what fair prices are for items like purses and apparel, about 10-20% of what negotiations start at!!! We also bought some pearls at an upscale store where prices weren’t as negotiable. With her guidance we saved a lot more than what her fee was!!! Quing is a private guide and doesn’t get commissions from shops, so she was very helpful!
We ended out day at the Lama Temple which was also enjoyable.
On our second day we went to the Temple of Heaven, Tienanmen Square, The Forbdden City, and an acrobatics show. We used public transportation on this day which worked great!
My wife and I would have never been able to see as much as Qing showed us on our own. Also, her knowledge is amazing. She is great fun to spend time with and she’s an excellent photographer!
I cannot recommend her more highly. I feel like we made a friend!

Qing is the best private english speaking guide in Beijing
Visited in 2010
We heard about Qing through Tripadvisor and although we had booked a trip which included a tour guide thought Virgin-Vacations we decided to contact Qing and hired her sevices for the first 2 days in Beijing.
There was no comparison between Qing and the tour guides from our tour. Qing speaks PERFECT English, much-much-much better than the other 4 tour guides we had in China. From the moment you contact her the first time through e-mails she will start to provide you with very valuable information. She is extremely honest and will not try to take you anywhere where you will have to buy anything. If you want to go shopping she will advise you ahead of time on a fair price to offer for your purchases. As discretely as they may do it, some of the other guides we used did not seem as caring and interested on what was best for us when it came to spending money.
We had wanted to go to the 798 Art District and UCCA and she figured the logistics to save us money on the driver and combined it with our trip to the Great Wall. She took us to the best dumpling restaurant on the way back from the Great Wall. There are not enough words to praise this wonderful young woman and her desire to make your trip a pleasant experience. Thank you Qing for making our trip to China so special. My husband and I travel a lot, the first time we used Tripadvisor was China and because of our good experience with Qing we now use this site everytime we plan a trip

Feedback on Qing private guide
Vistied in 2008
We have recently returned from 8 days in China, nearly 5 of which was spent in Beijing.
We arrived mid-afternoon on Day 1 and explored the neighbourhood around our hotel and experienced quite a culture shock (in a good way) but were glad we had arranged a guide for Day 2 (and Day 4) as finding directions for the things we had planned for Day 1 was very difficult – this was despite maps (from guidebooks that weren’t accurate), “instructions” from our concierge, and then asking girls working in local shops (resulting in hysterical laughter from the girls as they couldn’t speak English!)
Communication from Qing prior to our trip had been very prompt by email and she arrived on time at our hotel lobby the morning of our first day together. She took us on the first day to Jingshan Park (by public bus from our hotel) for a great view of the Forbidden City but also for our first glimpse into the local life – people exercising, singing, dancing, practicing calligraphy, playing cards etc.
We then walked to the Forbidden City and spent a few hours there – she made the trip so interesting with all the information and stories she provided. We then walked through Tiananmen Square and then caught a subway to the Lama temple – we ate lunch at a local restaurant first – Qing ordered for us and everything was absolutely delicious.
She then took us to a local market where she gave me tips on bargaining and also (covertly) wrote me a list of prices I should expect to pay for the items I was interested in – she wrote directions for a taxi to take us to the Silk Market independently later that evening. We got a taxi with her to the Acrobat show – she left us before the show with info in Chinese for a taxi to also get us back to our hotel.
It has been said many times on TA that you can do Beijing on your own – we are usually very independent travellers and have travelled widely – however we were SO very glad to have Qing with us – she taught us how to use the subway, buy tickets etc that enabled us to navigate more easily on the days she wasn’t with us. Yes, you can hire audio guides for the Forbidden City – but really – how boring is that? Qing took us through and told us all we wanted to know, as well we simply enjoyed learning from her the Chinese way of life today, and hearing stories about her family etc.
On Day 4 she took us to the Temple Of Heaven (again, my favourite part was people watching around the temple and in the parks) and to the Summer Palace. I would HIGHLY recommend using Qing as a guide, esp if you only have a short time in the city like we did.
Happy to answer any further questions if needed!
Great Tour in Beijing

Our family also used Qing and her husband Wong as our driver for three or our four days in Beijing. I can also highly recommend her as a tour guide. Like other says, you can do Beijing all by yourself if you have enough time, but as there were four of us and we wanted to see so much, having Qing and Wong made the whole experience that much easier and more pleasant. They were punctual, polite and added to our visit to Beijing through telling us about their families and what living in Beijing was like for them. I would not hesitate in recommending her to others travelling to Beijing.

Qing and her husband (Wangchen) were great as a team…a cheerful guide and a willing driver!
Our family of 6 including two young teenagers and two grand mothers over 70 were well looked after. Qing and Wangchen made sure that the different interests were taken care of and they were always willing to varying the schedule and itinerary during our visit.
We mentioned in passing that it would be great to see how locals live in a hutong and without hesitation, they took us to see their family home in one. Since we also made used of their services on the day when Wangchen was due to celebrate his birthday, we ended up joining in his celebration at lunch.
We will have no hesitation recommending them to visitors who need a cheerful team in Beijing!

My colleague was the first one of us to hire Ye Qing as a private tour guide while in Beijing. She then recommended Qing to me. We went to Beijing in 2010 and had a most memorable journey mainly because of Qing. She took us to places where the locals went for food! The best of all, we were able to go see major tourist sights leisurely. We used taxis, buses and subways while in the heart of Beijing. Then, we hired Qing’s husband for a day to Mu Tian Yu, a relatively non-busy but very pretty part of the Great Wall. The ride was pleasant and the van that we used was relatively new and very clean.
After that trip, I recommended Qing to my friend. After his trip, he told me that his kids loved the stories that Qing told.
So, if anyone needs a tour guide in Beijing, I would highly recommend Qing.

“A fabulous way to see Beijing.

If you can shell out the cash this is a very good use of time and money! I have only got great things to say about Qing and her husband who showed me a fabulous time in Beijing. We spoke on email and managed to put together a very bespoke, jam packed, day so that I was able to see all the sights that I wanted to see. I was in Beijing for business so only had one day to see the sights and orientate my self. Qing and her husband made me feel very much at home, very comfortable, nothing was too much trouble and with a fantastic depth of historic China, I got to hear all the ins-and-outs that you would not read in a guide book. It was also fascinating to hear an inside track about what living in China is all about for a young modern couple. They were quite happy to speak about what might be considered taboo subjects (politics, religion, one-child policy) etc so I can highly recommend this if you are interested in getting under the skin of what this amazing region is all about.

I booked our tour very late — two days before arriving in Beijing! But that was no trouble for them. Sarah was a lovely and very interesting guide and we considered ourselves lucky to have her as our guide. We visited the Great Wall, The Ming Tomb, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, all in our two days in the city. After visiting the Wall, we were taken to a local restaurant and had the most delicious fish lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Sarah, as her knowledge and input were invaluable, and I would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Beijing.

Wonderful Tour

I recently took a tour with Discover Beijing Tours in April 2013. The tour company did a wonderful job and at a very reasonable price. Prior to leaving they were able to customize a three day tour for me. My English speaking guide was waiting at the airport and she and our driver took us to all the places we had asked to visit. My favorite part of the tour was being able to eat at less ‘touristy’ restaurants. I really enjoyed eating where the locals eat. We did most of the major tourist attractions in the greater Beijing area, but also did some off beat attractions such as a Chinese acrobat performance. I would definitely use this tour company again.

Qing is the only reason why I enjoyed my visit to Beijing. She showed us around for two days and we were able to visit the main attractions in a quick and simple tour. She is extremely knowledgeable and her English is very easy to understand.
The cost of the tour was appropriate for the quality that you receive. She responded quickly to our emails and answered all of our questions about Chinese culture and traditions.
Qing is very talented and deserves high praise for her abilities. I have already passed her name along to my friends and family as the best guide in Beijing.

We did our tour with Qing for 3 days and it was a great and unforgettable moment with reasonable pricing. Qing speak fluent English and is very good in explaining the history of the places we visited. She is friendly, helpful and go beyond her role to assist. During our last day in Beijing, she tells us where to shop at the local shop – Xi Dan and how to use the subway to reach the shop.
Besides that, the drivers are friendly and careful too. The vehicles used are clean and comfortable.
The local foods that Qing took us was nice as well, especially the homemade Zha-Jiang-Mian (by her mother-in-law.. thumbs up).
Thanks to Qing and her drivers for the memorable experience.

Qing is personable, knowledgable, and smart–a terrific guide. She has a very good grasp of history and is full of tasty anecdotes. She also spoke about what life is like for Chinese people in Beijing, which we found very interesting. She took us to hole-in-the-wall restaurants with terrific food. We all loved her.

We took a trip to Beijing last March… it was 6 adults plus one 7 month old. Qing and her husband organized every detail for us from beginning to end, and really took the stress out of the trip. Her stories were interesting, and made the places we visited (Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, etc) come to life. Her English was excellent, and she quickly felt like part of our family. Arranging a private tour was perfect for us – we were able to rest when we needed to, and we didn’t have any of the horror stories you hear from the bigger trips where you get escorted to silk and jade factories. We truly enjoyed our time with Qing and her husband and would HIGHLY recommend that you use their services.

Wonderful guide and driver
We booked two half day tours (Forbidden City and Hutong Tours) and a full day tour to the Great Wall at Jinshanling with Qing, in addition to airport transfers. The guides and drivers were always on time, knowledgeable, accommodating and excellent with history and current culture. They were fun to travel with and happy to spend time answering our questions. Qing was also very responsive when we booked the tours, and she helped us identify restaurants and navigate the subway system when we were not with her. Qing and her colleagues are fabulous and we would book with them again in a heartbeat.
